Talk about local history with the current owners, Peggy and Tom O’Malley, who were both born in Atascadero. Tom grew up next door in a house built by his father in the 1940’s. Tom’s first job was working in the “Colony Orchard” at the historic home right next door. This home was built for Harry and Minnie Peterson in 1927 by Russell Pysher, the brother-in-law of Minnie Peterson. He was also the head carpenter at the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena for most of his career. Harry was one of the first businessmen in Atascadero and Minnie was a local artist. Some of her work is now on display at this home along with paintings of local scenes painted by Tom’s grandmother, mother and other local artists. Peggy and Tom continue the tradition of using local craftsmen to faithfully restore, maintain and expand their home. For example, local artist Mark Greenaway created the many wayfinding signs in use around the property. They also have on display many historic items showing life in the area from different time periods. See some of the artifacts from the original Colony Holding Company blacksmith shop. Attend some of the many events held in The Carriage House that is filled with historic pictures and artifacts related to carriages.
